Most Hong Kong students use the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) to enter university,
making it the key assessment of their 12 years of study. After results are released, many students and parents
feel both joy and worry, as some don’t achieve their desired scores or choices, causing uncertainty about their
future. Rather than stressing, it’s better to explore alternative pathways. If DSE results aren’t ideal, options
beyond repeating or taking associate degrees exist. Ontario eSchool (OeS) offers the Ontario Secondary School
Diploma (OSSD), recognized by universities worldwide. With this diploma, students can apply to local or overseas
universities, broadening their choices. The flexible grading system also boosts admission chances, with a 90%
university entry rate since OeS was founded.
Break free from subject selection restrictions and take control of your academic future. Completing the program also
grants an international university admission pass, boosting local and overseas study advantages.
Besides DSE results, many JUPAS programs require specific elective subjects. If students haven't taken relevant
electives, even with good scores, they might miss out. Ontario eSchool (OeS) offers about 50 university-credit courses,
allowing students to choose beyond the usual 2-3 electives in traditional schools. This helps students who missed ideal
electives academically to catch up, increasing their chances for their desired courses. Graduates can apply to local
universities via non-JUPAS routes. The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is recognized by ten Hong Kong universities.
Alan Chan, the Operations Director, said there’s great potential for online high schools as they offer an alternative learning
mode suited for different students. Since there are no public exams, assessments are based on classwork and assignments
with clear criteria, helping students understand university requirements and perform better. He added the school will reform
courses in the future, noting many students attend classes at night, freeing their mornings for personal time. He observed that
many Hong Kong students are unclear about their future study paths and tend to focus solely on DSE results before deciding
on a major, but this mindset is flawed. Students should use their study time to explore different industries and jobs to discover
their interests.
